I need a friend that will say "Yes that shirt does make you look fat." or "You need to chill out!"
A friend that expects the best from me.
A friend that wants to listen and also be listened to.
A friend that has my back.

Most importantly I just need a friend.

Little Cowboy

Trenton has been playing this video game with a Cowboy in it. He rides horses a lot in the game too. Jude will sit and watch that game for as long as I let him - which once the shooting and skinning of animals starts, I make him go play in his room.

Anyway, he started to take more interest in his donkey (left) and his rocking horse (right) of which we didn't think much of until Trenton realized it probably has to do with the video game.
And the new clicking sound he makes? Is he mimicking horse trotting? We think so!

Jude has this infatuation with whatever his dad is doing. If dad plays cars with him, cars become his favorite. If dad is doing something in the garage, Jude must be there checking it out.
It only makes sense that he would be interested in being a naked cowboy because dad...well the nakedness had nothing to do with it. Ha ha. But we are convinced the cowboy part must have to do with dad's game!

Jude Eats

I want to brag about my little guy today. He is the best eater!
We are transitioning out of the bottle in the morning and into 3 meals a day with a snack in the afternoon. He didn't have an attachment to his bottle, I was just being lazy and plopping a bottle in his mouth in the morning - while I allowed myself to slowly wake up. Making him breakfast in the morning, however, has been really fun so far. And it feels good to put a little masterpiece on his plate. His typical meals are like this:

Breakfast:
Oatmeal & Bananas or toast
Scrambled Eggs & fruit
Yogurt & Wheat thins or Granola
French Toast & Bananas
Small Waffle & Strawberries.
Banana Toast

Lunch:
Chicken Nuggets and green beans or edamame
Cheese,Crackers & Applesauce or a fruit cup
Peanut Butter and Jelly & cheese
Black Bean burrito

Snack Time: Applesauce, Fruit leather, Cereal bar, Yogurt, Crackers or Cheese

Dinner:
Usually whatever we eat ranging from:
Teriyaki chicken and rice (with broccoli or edamame)
Chicken and Broccoli casserole
Ground Turkey tacos
Hamburgers
Steak and mashed potatoes
Pasta with chicken...etc..

We eat lots of chicken.

I try really hard to feed Jude whole grain bread and crackers only and a good amount of fruits and vegetables. If I feed him fruit cups there is no sugar added, his chicken nuggets are good quality based on my own judgement...etc.
I do struggle with portion sizes though. He would eat the day away if I let him (he may or may not get that from his mother) so I found a magazine article that shows appropriate portions and have considered trying that. (What do you think?)
I would love any advice or criticism on my menu. I also would like to start introducing fish to our diets a little more. I would like to make fish for dinner... and maybe some homemade fish sticks for his lunch? Any recipes or suggestions on types of fish? I don't like salmon unfortunately.
Also, I am working on finding a good way to keep stocked up on fresh fruit while not wasting it at the same time.
Whew! This can be a lot of work to stay mindful of Jude's health (and our health) but it is worth it to me. I am certainly no pro, but I am trying. Someday I will be where I want to be, and we will eat more organic/fresh foods, but for now this is a start.

Jude's First time in Nursery

Jude is getting to be so hard at church. He is normally such a calm child but I think he feels confined at church so he gets a little frustrated. This is why I have decided to quit wrestling with him in releif society and start taking him into nursery. They typically don't like to take children into Nursery until 18 months, but I decided to start taking him with me tagging along so he could get used to it and hopefully be able to start going early. (He is 15 months)
He did really good during play time and couldn't have cared less if Trenton and I were there or not, but snack time was a different story.
Jude is serious about his food and he could not understand why other kids were taking so long to eat and also why they were leaving their cookies on the table. The nursery workers were practically throwing cookies at us to stop him from crying over the other kid's cookies. (At least they were Nilla Wafers? )
I now know that I need to teach him about sharing and patience when it comes to food. Ha!
Singing time was the my favorite part. Jude clapped, danced, and laughed the whole time. It was so adorable.

My sister is getting married: Engagements

Being the oldest, child, this is just so exciting for me. I have been waiting so patiently for one of my sisters to get married so we can talk "husbands" and "budgeting" and someday "diapers."
I'm really excited that I got to photograph my sister and her fiance for their Engagements and later I get to do the bridals which will be even more exciting.
I appreciate the support Jordan! Thank you for trusting in me to capture your special moments! It means so much to me as your sister.

Do you live in California? and a sneak peek

I met with my new accountant yesterday and my eyes were opened on how to run my business properly. (Can I first just say how cool it is to say "my accountant." Yeah I'm legitimate!)

I was introduced to the world of "write offs" and "spreed sheets." It was so cool! I'm glad to know I have started my business on my own - pretty well. I didn't do anything wrong yet! I just have to do more of what I was already doing. Doing taxes however, was not something I was going to try on my own (duh.) So I picked my accountant's brain and he told me that I need to work my entire life into my business. Even vacation! What!?

Apparently if I schedule a shoot during vacation, I can write part of my travel expenses off. Amazing! So, I am trying to get at least one session in California during February 27th- March 2nd. Not only that, but I would love to do a shoot somewhere I have never done one before! That would be a blast!

Organizilla

I am the girl that must have "like" dishes next to each other in the dishwasher.

I like everything around me to look nice, neat and pretty. Sometimes this is hard though!

Especially with everyday items.

These aren't the best pictures but I thought I'd post about them anyway. As you can see, on the left is

my pantry and the right is my bathroom drawer. These are the two hardest areas for me to keep

organized so I have been trying to come up with ways to keep me in line.

The bathroom drawer works great but the pantry is always a work in progress. I am slowly buying

containers and eventually everything will match. For now this is what it looks like.

I have been working really hard at trying to organize and stock up our house. We have a fairly small

pantry so I have used the laundry room cabinets to store extra pasta, pop tarts, cereal, snacks for

Trenton's lunch, rice and misc food storage. We also just received a freezer from my Grandma which

contains two cases of frozen veggies and a ham... haha I just got it! Give me a break!

Next, I'll share my refrigerator and freezer... and maybe some organization I've done in Jude's room.

I thought it would be fun to share my works in progress and my final products...

Any tips or suggestions?

My sister is getting married.

I knew I wanted to document my sister trying on her dresses and I'm so glad she invited me to come along. It's something that is full of so much excitement, nervousness and even a little emotion. I didn't expect to get emotional (that's my mom's job) but I did end up shedding a tear. It was so exciting once she chose "the one" she is going to look beautiful on the big day!

I am listening to Trenton read Jude a story as Jude responds with "goggie!" every few seconds. Life is so good.

Lately my days range anywhere from lots of house work to relaxing days full of playtime and reading.

I'm studying up on new recipes, getting my new website going for my photography, and I actually got

a facial the other day. (Thanks for tending Jude Kristi.) I feel SO spoiled to be able to do whatever I

please.

I'm sure I will get over it, but right now I think any stay at home mother that complains is crazy.

What on earth do you have to complain about? This is pure heaven!

...Really I understand... I'm sure things get a lot more hectic with more than one child and I'm not

saying staying at home in the house all day doesn't make me a little stir crazy at times, but I am just

so thankful to be living the dream I have dreamt of for so long!

I know things may seem boring around here but I feel the more time I spend with Jude and the less

time on the blog - the better life is for me right now.

To explain the pictures above:

Jude was mad that I wouldnt let him crawl in the street so after trying to get him to play on his bike

and failing as usual, we took a stroll down to the silly little "park//swingset" in our neighborhood and

I let him roam free. It's his new favorite thing since we took him on New Years Eve.

Motherhood

Today I really felt the greatness of being jobless. I ate a good breakfast, hung out in my leggings and over sized sweater, played in the tiny back yard with Jude, finished the hunger games and started the next book. Then I set up Jude's little wonderland and watched him push his cars around.
(I even started entering all my huggies diapers rewards codes online. Yes!)

I am feeling good because I am doing all the little things that I didn't have time for before. Cleaning out closets, making better meals, organizing, etc. I feel at home in my role as a housewife.

It's funny because I never really saw myself as a wife and mother. I knew it would happen someday but I wasn't one of those girls that said "I want to be a mom." I always had art in mind.
And now as I move into motherhood and pursue my domestic side, I feel so comfortable, and happy, and whole - as a person. Being a mother is such an amazing calling in life, I never knew how much I would love it.

New years Eve - Day

The weather is so beautiful here in Southern Utah. On Saturday we took a small minute to spend some time outside with Jude. He loves it outside.
The original plan was to play with Jude all day - then spend some time alone out to dinner or a movie. But, we ended up eating an early dinner with some friends and when we went to drop of Jude at my parents, we just didn't know where to go. So, we stayed and watched a movie while enjoying a little of my dad's amazing cooking late into the night.

It wasn't a party like I wanted to do in the first place, or a date night like I wanted to do second, but it was nice and relaxing.

New Year Resolutions

Well, another year is about here - which means its resolution time. I just love making resolutions - it really works for me. Last year I made some that I did pretty well at improving on (most of them at least.) And now this year, I would like to add some. Here we go.

Post Edit: Spend less time on the computer/android
Organize the entire house.
Start a Play Group for Jude.
Save up the money for a 5D Mark II
Practice Yoga more regularly.
Be more patient with my husband.

I have a nice big list of things to clean and organize and I've already started chipping away at it.
As far as the play, group, that one is going to be a little hard for me but I've got a whole year to get it going.
I've got a small amount saved for the camera already but its hard with all the other business expenses. I know I can do it!
The yoga works as a double duty, I want to learn to meditate and calm down and also I'd like to get more fit. I just love yoga and how it makes me feel.
And last, well, that just needs to happen. :)

Self Portrait 12-29-2011

A friend of ours works in the psychology field - specifically with troubled youth.

One day he asked a girl to clean up her meal and she didn't want to do it. After some arguing on her side she ended with "You just don't understand, I was raped." He responded with something to the affect of "Okay? what does that have to do with cleaning up?"

Although his response sounds unsympathetic, it forces the girl to realize that she is living in the present.

I think it is important to be sympathetic to the past and what you or others have been through. But I think it is even more important to stop dwelling on those things.

Do you define yourself by your mistakes?

Do you define yourself by the bad things that have happened to you?

The girl in the story defined herself as a rape victim. But she is so much more. She is a daughter of God. She is beautiful, talented, and smart. She is not a victim, she is a beautiful young lady with her life ahead of her.

Just a little reminder. Don't worry about things you can not change - including the past.

Do not define yourself by your faults or bad experiences.

Me? I am not that girl that made some big mistakes or who has a funny eye.
I am a wife, mother, photographer, and daughter of God - who strives to be good each day.

(Note: This sounds preachy, but really it is a reminder I needed myself and hoped others could benefit from.)

Christmas Recap

So Jude didn't really like opening presents but I got a kick out of watching him "oo and ahh" over his presents once they were opened by me or Trenton. He was way overwhelmed and distracted. So funny.

The family photo with the "happy hump day" sign was the only shot we got of all 3 of us so I included it. We took the photo for Trenton's brother Dallas of whom is on an LDS mission. "Hump day" means the half way mark for how long he has been gone. We will be sending him pictures of people holding that sign.

Also the last two photos act as before and afters of Jude's haircut I gave him. I'm no pro - especially when it come to cutting a baby's hair. But, I think it looks a lot better. I was so attached to the long hair but it was getting so messy - it just didn't look good anymore.

Notes:

I gave Trenton his big tool box that I was so nervous about and I think he liked it quite a bit. Also he spent much of Monday organizing the garage. Yes! This gift benefits me too!

Trenton gave me a pots and pans set. I am so excited because we have been using pots and pans that his roommates left behind - terrible quality and even chipping and flaking. I made a grilled cheese yesterday and it was so quick! I didn't realize the difference good pans make.

We had some nice alone time with just our little family. We laughed at Jude trying to stand and cuddled up for a movie or two. Having both our families close means lots of running around and that can cause me a bit of stress (because its hard to please everyone) so I REALLY enjoyed our family alone time.

I particularly enjoyed the live Nativity and also the reading of the Saviors birth up in Enterprise. I needed those reminders.

Christmas came and went too fast, but it was nice. And I am in a happy place right now with 4 days left of my job. I'm excited to have a lot of free time in the New Year to organize, nurture, cook, craft, etc. Also, I think I'll have a little New Years Party!

Gifts for the Mommas in my life

How was your Christmas!? I was spoiled as usual but the best part was watching Jude open presents.
(More of that to come.)
I made these little magnets for my mother and mother-in-law for Christmas and I think they turned out really good. I've seen Polaroid magnets online and wanted to make them for some time now, but epoxy/paper glaze just isn't my thing and I couldn't quite find what I was looking for - it just intimidated me a little. So, I found some glass squares at the craft store and mod podged the pictures to the back. (picture side down) Then I added some sticky magnets and viola! Simple, easy, yet so adorable - and perfect for the grandmas if I do say so myself! I didn't do too many handmade gifts this year but I'm glad I did a few!

I hope you have a beautiful, spiritual, loving, relaxing, happy {and anything else you want it to be} Christmas. Around here it feels like its come too fast, but all the presents are wrapped, schedules are full, and cookies have been baked (or are being baked as we speak) so I think I'm ready.

Family Night

Trenton's twin brother and his family invited us to go walk around the LDS Temple for some family time. I hadn't seen the Nativity yet so I enjoyed going and Jude loved the fake animals. We listened to the message in the visitors center while looking at the Christus and I tried to stop snapping the cuteness of the kids listening to the sister missionary. I also especially enjoyed the art exhibit of Christ's life. There was a little map with coordinating pictures showing where every event took place and it was so interesting.

I've been so stressed out and crazy lately so I was really good for me to take a moment to feel close to my savior and to remember what life itself is really about. *I really need to learn how to take night time photographs - serious embarrassment for a photographer to post these photos, but! Life isn't about perfect photos so there ya go! haha!

Jude - Christmas Style

Sometimes I would love to show what goes on behind the scenes of these type of photo shoots. Imagine a piece of fabric draped from the kitchen table - held down with canned food. Me in "stink bug" position, Jude crawling all over the place - hence the less than perfect plaid background coverage. Candy cane on the floor. Just pure craziness!
Anyway, I thought I needed to do something fun for Christmas this year. I've been feeling a little guilty after taking a huge break from snapping my little guy after the Jude Year One project. So these pictures are what I came up with.Enjoy.

SUPG Shoot

A few weeks back our little photography group went out for a fun creative shoot together. There were about 15 photogs and 8 or so models. It was extremely FREEZING and extremely WINDY! I had the hardest time staying focused so I didn't not get very many photos. The ones I did get turned out pretty cool though - in my opinion. As you can tell I really like Lani (the pretty red head.) Sometimes there is just a connection with models and photographers and I feel like we had one. She is such a different kind of beautiful. I loved her!
It felt good to get out and snap without any pressure.

As of right now I have all my editing done and my schedule is pretty clear in all facets of my life - until after Christmas. It feels really good!

New Hair

Hmm.. bangs. Kind of weird but change is fun so thats why I did it.

Also I cut 3 inches off which was scary for me. I think I should have

done that a long time ago. I'm loving "short-er" hair.

(I think I'm really good at creating incredibly awkward self portraits.)

Happy Friday! What are you doing this weekend? Well I, of course

will be finishing my Christmas shopping today! Did you know today is

free shipping day? My husband is starting his shopping today and taking

advantage of the free shipping. Silly husband.

I'm counting down the days til' Christmas but most of all til' December 30th

which is my last day of working at the day job! I could not be any

more excited! I think I'll be really lazy the first week, then after that it will

be clean sweeping the house and organizing and list makinng. I am

actually looking forward to that kind of thing! Having no day job

is so weird to imagine. I am always teasing my sister-in-law asking her

what she does all day. I cant wait!

Jude 14 Months

I have not taken many pictures of Jude since the big 1, I have been busy snapping for other people and

their families. So, today I felt a bit caught up and decided to take some candids of my little guy. I was

using a 50mm 1.4 of which does not have auto focus (its broken.) It's good practice but kind of hard

for me. That is why some shots are a bit out of focus. I thought they looked cool//cute//artsy despite

the focus, so I included them.

Anyway, here are some things Jude has been doing that just melt out hearts.

Talking. Jude says, ma ma, mommy, mom, da da, daddy, dad, tickle tickle, whats that, and his newest

is goggie or doggie. He often repeats things such as "food" or peoples names and on occasion says

"mpa" for grandpa and "guhma" for grandma. He also has his own language and he is very talkative.

Cuddling. Jude loves to chill on the couch and cuddle up to us. He is a huge cuddler. The other day we
found him asleep with his elephant. He was completely wrapped around it - arms and legs. So cute.

Also anytime he sees a pillow or blanket somewhere, he plops his head on it and say "ohhh" or waits for

us to say it.

Waving. He waves bye bye to people and objects when we leave them and some times he waves hello.

Love it.

Standing and Walking with help. Jude is so close to walking. The other day I looked over at him

laughing hysterically at himself as he had learned to stand up from sitting all on his own. He thought it

was hilarious. He walks all over the house but not on his own - he uses the wall or furniture. He has

taken one step on his own but that's it.

Eating. Jude is serious business when it comes to meal time. He eats whole burritos, PB&J, and

fruit cups like crazy. He also loves his milk in his sippy cup. He is the funniest eater. He seriously goes

nuts over food.

Dancing. Jude wiggles and shakes to music now! This is one of his most recent new tricks and we

love it. So cute!

We are loving this age as parents. Watching Jude learn and develop is so exciting. Trenton and I were

talking last night about Jude and how attached we are to him. I told him the thought of another child

just doesn't make sense to me because I couldn't love them as much as I love Jude. I know that's

probably not true but I just can not fathom loving another person this much.

Christmas in the air

1&2. Jude and momma time. We've been getting a little more of this lately since I put my notice in at my day job. Not really sure if my work load has backed off a bit or if my subconscious stress has backed off a bit. haha.
3&4. I have been waiting for a long time to share my favorite Christmas heirloom with my own little one. See my post from two years ago here.
5. Jude, quite frightened by Santa. Pretty funny.
6&7. Photo jobs about done (oh my I can see an end in sight finally!) and Christmas cards mailed out!
8&9. Jude enjoying time with his poppa.

10. Jude asleep in the car with chocolate on his face. We had a very long day shopping and running errands. We both enjoyed a little chocolate and a nap.
11. The backdrop we set up for our charity photo shoot as the Southern Utah Photography Guild.
12&13. Jude in winter boots and coat. Not sure why he hates his coat.
14. Yes! I'm just about done with Christmas shopping and wrapping!
15. Jude's new way of throwing a fit. It's hilarious!

I was interviewed for the newspaper the other day. I was pretty excited about it.

It turns out they printed my business name wrong along with my phone number,

and also messed up on the grammar on a few of the things I said. But! It's still kind

of cool to be interviewed. I an so excited about the Southern Utah Photography

Guild. I have been able to get to know so many great photographers. Being the

Secretary can be a little overwhelming at times, but it is more often a blast. This group

is going to do so many good things this [see article above] being the first of many.

50 Reasons to Not Date a Photographer, Giveaway Winner, & a Charity Event. Whew!

A friend of mine posted this on facebook and it shocked me how much this describes me. I guess I'm not all that different from every other photographer. haha!

They rather hold their bulky camera, than hold hands with you.
On a romantic date, you’ll watch the sun go down and think “Wow this is gorgeous” and they’ll go “mirror lock, tripod, and stop down f/8 at 1/125.”
You’ll never be able to enjoy tv, movies, or magazines because they’ll point out all the visual flaws.
They like to sit in obscure coffee shop and voyeuristically watch people for great lengths of time.
If you’re taking a walk outside and you come across some “interesting light” they will make you sit/stand/pose in public so that they can take a photo.
You’ll never get to enjoy freshly cooked meals because they’ll spend 15 minutes taking 20 variations of the same dish with their iPhone.
They get angry when your friends go up to them and say “I am interested in photography, can you recommend a good camera for me? Nothing professional I just want to take pretty pictures.”
You’ll wait longer for them to finish analyzing art in a museum than you’ll wait at the dmv
Same goes with old used bookstores.
When you think they’re giving you their undivided attention, they’re really wondering how they could fix you with a little Clone Tool and Patch Tool.
Or they are actually using you to not look so creepy as they people watch everything going on around you.
They rather drop $1,000+ on new glass than a purse for you.
You can’t take a photo with them without taking at least five more.
If you ask them if you look fat, they’ll say “don’t worry I can photoshop you later.”
They’ll never photoshop something simple for you if the content is not up to their “standards.”
That photo they randomly took of you yesterday? Good luck getting them to send it to you.
They spend all their time on the computer (and not for porn.)
They can’t have a normal conversation with throwing acronyms and random numbers.
They still use film cameras.
They spend a lot of time with people cooler than you i.e. models, actors, musicians, successful rich people.
They’ll be fussy over the position of a common household object, like a coffee cup.
They won’t return your calls or text messages, but you can bet they’re still posting pics on Instagram.
They like watching old films that you’ve never heard or will ever understand.
They like looking at weird things in general.
Instead of having penis-envy, they have camera-gear-envy.
If there’s a natural disaster in a far away land, they’re already on a plane going over there.
Everything is watermarked.
They think everyone else’s photos suck.
They want to color correct a lot of scenes from Twilight and Jersey Shore.
They hate rainbows, especially ones spinning in a circle.
Whenever you’re in a group talking and the conversation goes deep, they’re taking notes in some form of Moleskine.
They use over priced Moleskine notebooks.

I'm not very crafty

Really, I'm not. In fact these tags I made turned out a little more cracked than I would have liked, but add a little white paint and they look beautiful on a gift.

Jude is really into animals lately so I knew I wanted to do something animal themed for his tags. My mother-in-law gave me some cupcake toppers a while back that acted perfectly as stamps in the salt dough. For all the others I either used stamps or cookie cutters.

Who knew salt dough {of which I learned to make in the 4th grade} would fancy up a gift so nicely?
Salt dough is something I can handle and it looks like I went above and beyond. What do you think?

It's official! I put in my one month notice at the day job today! It went really well and both my boss and I feel good about it. Trenton and I have been saving funds, and preparing ourselves for this day for a while now.
We expedited this decision a little based on the company I work for and their rearranging of responsibilities, but I still feel this is good. There are some things that are going to be a little difficult, but its worth it for me.

I know we could not have done this if it weren't for the many photography opportunities
Ihave been blessed with. The lord has been showering me with blessings in the business area. I couldn't be more thankful! Trenton and I keep saying. "This is the American dream." - doing what you love for a living!

As Trenton would say "You finally got what you want." Why yes I did... well on January first I will, and I cant wait!

Today I was looking through my phone - noticing all the funny pictures.

I cant seem to get out of my funk lately but these pictures reminded me

that there is SO much good in my life. I dont need to focus all the small

amount of bad//stressful//annoying things in my life. That is wear technology

is good. Having my phone attached to my hip (basically) makes it easy

to snap funny pictures - which in turn captures memories and reminds

me of the simple pleasures. It's clear I am completely obsessed with my

little one. That's what happens when you have a child I guess.

A little picture explanation:

                     1. The dresser I scored from Grandma's yard sale. Trenton hates it. :)
                     2. Jude relaxing. So silly.
                     3. Jude loves to read his books in the car.
                     4. I think Jude needs a haircut but I still cant bare to do it.
                     5. Jude trying to eat his Halloween candy. Sorry ju-bee its all mine!

Binky Baby

Above are coordinating photos. The first with the Bink and the second right after I took it away. Yikes!

We first gave Jude a Bink on day 2 of his life. The nurse in the hospital asked if she could give it to him and in a weak moment of exhaustion and sleep deprivation I said yes. I wasn't aware that it was kind of a defining decision. We continued to use the Bink out of habit and Jude became a Binky Baby.

Now, If Jude sees his Pacifier at all, he must have it. He is definitely attached. I go back and forth with how I feel about the Bink. Trenton and I are glad he doesn't suck his thumb because that seems harder to stop a child from doing, but the Bink sometimes acts as a sleep cue and we don't like that.
Now, I should give Jude credit, he can sleep without it but he definitely falls asleep better with it.

I am a little scared to ask, but, what do you think? Binky, No Binky? Are you indifferent?
When would you say the Binky should be retired?

We agree that once a child has to take out their Binky to talk, that is too old for the Bink. I have noticed Jude takes it out to cry or jibber jabber. We plan to cut him off fairly soon - when I have a little more time and energy to deal with it.

I am a Worry-er

When I read THIS POST's title a while back, I knew it was going

to apply to me. It read "Do you Worry too much?" "YES!" I said!

Well not really, but in my head i sure did. haha! There are a few things

that have helped me lately when it comes to my extreme case of

worrying//sensitivity. Here they are:

1. My Father-in-Law. I know. Weird. But, he said something that

hit me the other night. He said something along the lines of this:

"Reading between the lines is a waste of time and will only get you

into to trouble." He definitely worded it differently but that is how I

interpreted it. I realized although he was not talking to me directly

that I need to hear that. I read between the lines WAY too much.

I think and Worry way to much! I need to let people say what they

what they say and stop trying to guess what motives or reasoning is

behind it.

2. The article I linked to above and the visualization method. This is

completely brilliant and effective for someone like me. I am very

visual. For me picturing my life and tossing away my silly worries

completely works! Read that article. Try it for yourself. I feel so good!

3. Work. I know, this is weird too. But, I have noticed when I am

being productive and focusing on my work, photography, serving

Jude and Trenton, I don't have time to sit and worry. Pretty obvious.

So, Do YOU worry too much? There are a few things that really get

me going and when I start to worry about them - sometimes - there is

no going back. I am left making my husband miserable by trying to

talk out my frustration or else I get frustrated because I end up

realizing I can't make everything perfect.

On a lighter note, Isn't there something fantastic about the Holiday

Season? Although I'm not a cold weather girl, I can not help but

be cheery when I start to plan what kind of pie I'll make for

Thanksgiving dinner. Or when I find a package on my doorstep

to find my Christmas cards inside. Oh I cant wait to send them out!

I hope you are all cuddling up with your loved ones and focusing

on the good stuff. Lets stop worrying so much! Deal?

No, I don't smoke but I always had this frustration with my smoking

co-workers that needed a 15 minute break every hour. Not that I have

anything against smokers, I just wanted MY break. ha! So now when I

am at home chugging away at work, I allow myself a 15 minute break

every few hours. Funny me.

Anyway, don't you love Terry's work! It cracks me up. I completely

feel like the first picture when I look in the mirror! haha! And did you

I'VE BEEN WORKING MY LITTLE BUM OFF and I finally finished editing the photos from my big
dance Company shoot. I think it took me about a month to fit it in between many other shoots and my
day job and Jude. It feels oh so good to have these done!

Anyway, I am beyond crazy right now. I am in my idea of the worst limbo ever. I'm working hard to

get my business up and running more smoothly and build my client base while still working at the day

job. I am going mad because my dream is SO close but I just can't reach it yet. Oh how I want to work

for myself and be able to focus on the little one during the day. I have dreams of the perfectly clean

house and time to edit photos and most importantly time to just sit and play with Jude - without

worrying about work deadlines for someone Else's company.

I dont have many interesting things to say lately as it is the same old thing around here. We are putting

our heads down and pushing through the un-fun stuff - being loads of work, and some penny pinching.
Soon we will be able to jump for joy after accomplishing our goals. For now we are getting there by

being boring and responsible. It will be so worth it!
For fun, here are a few photos from the wedding I just shot. I get a kick out pictures of me in action. I tend to have very un-attractive looks on my face. These arent too bad. (I'm the one with the camera in case you didn't catch that. haha)

the "Secret Project"

I had the opportunity to assist Kevin Hulett on a really cool creative project last weekend. I am dying to share more but I'm afraid I am bound by a contract. haha! (Really though, I signed a document saying I would keep this a secret.) The black and whites are the few "behind the scenes" photos I had time to snap. That one of Amberly and I is just beautiful wouldn't you say? (wow!)

We started shooting (Kevin started shooting) around 8pm and finished somewhere around 2am. It was so fun! There is something about working late into the night that makes emotions, creative juices, and senses of humor flow more than usual.

Anyway, thank you to Kevin for letting me be involved in your project. I am so excited to tell people more about it - when it's all finished. Also it was such a pleasure to get to know everyone. What a fun group of people!

Anniversary Evening

Our night was... nice. It's fun to spend time with just the
sweetie. And this time we talked about how a year ago we were eating
out and missing our little one SO much. This time was different.
We loved ever minute of leaving him behind. Sorry Jude!
You are just exhausting! haha

Anyway, the most important photo above is the one of the flowers.

Trenton has a real thing against flowers. I have begged him for three

years now to forget about thinking it's nonsense and just acknowledge

flowers as something a girl likes. It was getting so out of hand that

he wouldn't get them because I was so bent on it. And you know what?

Yesterday, I wasn't expecting flowers whatsoever. I had given up

on the idea and then! He did it!. Maybe Trenton is brilliant with timing.

3 Years!

I'm so happy to say Trenton and I have been married for 3 crazy years today. Things haven't always been peachy, but honestly right now all I can remember is the good stuff. We have such a blast together. We balance each other out and compliment each other nicely. I love my perfect match and I know being with him makes me a better person every day. Thank you for putting up with me Trenton! Oh and thanks for helping me make the cutest kid alive.

Family Pictures: Overload

My side of the family has not had pictures taken in many many years, so it is so fun to have these finally. And it's especially fun for me because my little family is included now. NOTE: This story is a little long, but it is pretty amazing. I suggest you read it!

Last Thursday I photographed a cute little family at a place called the Jacob Hamblin home. (A historical Pioneer home here in the Southern Utah Area.) While I was photographing them, my card became full. I quickly switched from my 8g to my 4g SD card and put the 8 in my camera bag side pocket.

I've been so busy with photo shoots that I just got the chance to look at the photos a day or two ago. I loaded the 4g onto my computer but when I went to get my other card, it was MISSING!

Now here's the thing, I usually have a terrible memory, this time however I was 99% positive I put the card in THAT bag in THAT pocket.
The pocket was unzipped and I figured it must have fallen out somehow. I searched my car like crazy. I searched my prop closet, emptied out my camera bag, etc. The card was no where to be found.

I called my husband and asked him to pray for me (every time he prays about a lost item, he finds it) but I had already lost hope. I knew there was no way I would find my tiny SD card back at the pioneer home - which is the only place I had not searched yet. We shot most of the photos in the orchard - in the grass. Talk about a needle in a haystack!
Although I had resigned myself to loss, Trenton insisted on searching the orchard. I really wasn't looking forward to making a fool out of myself by searching a field of grass for a tiny little card. But, we went.

On the way over, I decided to put my complete faith in God. If he can heal the sick, part the red sea, make rocks glow, etc. He can help my find my card right? I told him I know he can make miracles happen and that I am going to trust in him 100%. And I did.

We searched near a tree that I remembered putting my bag by, searched by the ivy, and in the orchard // grass. NOTHING. We were loosing hope but we both felt that if the lord saw us trying so hard, he would help us find the card when we returned home at least. So, we did one more look over the same areas.

Right before we were about to leave, Trenton kicked up some leaves by the tree I previously mentioned. Out flew the SD card! It was as if God himself had tossed it in front of our faces! We could not believe our eyes! We had just witnessed our own little miracle!
Exactly one week later and my SD was still laying in the leaves - waiting for me to come find it. Or was it? Did God place it there for us - after we put our faith in him? Is that so much to imagine? At this point, I don't think so.
I am feeling completely blown away. Something so simple has honestly boosted my faith so much!

I can honestly say that God is watching over me (and you!) and he DOES answer our prayers if we honestly believe he will. This is yet another example of God helping me in ever facet of my business. *sigh How unbelievable!

Technology is weird.

So I'm in line at the check out at target when I hear someone calling my name. I turn to see someone I recognize but I have never met. It was Cierra! (from the yellow house blog)
At this point I am feeling very weird. I know Cierra. I know about her little guy Cash and his fight against CAH. I know that she loves U2 and that she pretty much has her camera with her everywhere she goes. I even know her in-laws. But! Until this afternoon at the target check out, I have never actually met Cierra. Even cuter in person, she gave me a big hug and it felt like I was greeting an old friend.
Isn't technology weird? I could go on and on about this. I have teased my sisters endlessly for making friends through online gaming, social networking, etc. I told them a million times "how do you know they are who they say they are? That is so creepy!" Well I'm guilty!
In my defense I DO think the blog world is a little different than online gaming, but the idea is similar.
I have so many online friends!

That is why I asked Cierra if we could get together again while she was in town. I wanted to get to know her for real. And of course I wanted Jude and Cash to play together.
It was so fun! I always thought we were alike but to meet in person and talk a little it was proven even more. We both had our cameras - snapping photos of our food and our boys and our surroundings.

I guess it's not so bad getting to know someone online THEN meeting in person. There is much more to talk about and that awkwardness is not there whatsoever.

Thanks for the fun Cierra! You are one pretty momma -inside and out - and Cash melts my heart. He is so completely charming!

Halloween - No, not owls, foxes

We were the Fantastic Mr. Fox Family for Halloween. There was a lot of explaining when it came to our costumes, but we ourselves were pretty proud of them. :)
I made the masks from Mardi Gras masks, feathers, brown paper bags, broom bristles, and hot glue. They were pretty easy. The tails were feather boas with added red feathers to make them look more "foxy."

In the afternoon, Jude and I met Kristi, Emily, and Annie (aka Glenda, The Cowardly Lion, and Dorothy) at one of the local high schools to trick or treat. It was fun to hear the teenagers "oo" and "aaah" over Jude.
Later Trenton and I took Jude to the "Trunk or Treat" and left in point two seconds due to lameness. haha

We finished out the night at my parents Halloween party - which is a yearly tradition. It's always full of delicious food, and great company. (Including Trevor and Kristi again. You can see the completed costume theme with Trevor in the photo. He was the Scarecrow.)

All in all Halloween was a lot of fun and we came home with lots of candy for us - not Jude! Yes! haha

P.S. Major points for the husband and his willingness to wear a tail all night. :)

Fall fun

A while back we went to the local farm and corn maze to have a little "fall fun" Jude was not quite old enough to enjoy it all and Emily (his cousin) is old enough - but to timid. ha! We enjoyed the petting zoo, pig races, bouncy things?, the teeter totter, and the corn maze. The weather was fantastic and it was a fun change from our boring old routine.
P.S. Jude is pointing at Darth Vader in the last photo. He had a real interest in the Star Wars characters and kept waving and pointing at them. I am still trying to figure out why they were at the farm in the first place. Not really cohesive with the theme they had going. haha!

Trenton told me he is going to take Jude on Saturday and leave me to editing

photos all day. I didn't like the sound of such solitude, but then he said he'd

bring me lunch and it sounded much better. haha! Anyway I should be

finishing up an awful lots of photos Saturday so I can get back to normal on

Monday. And! I can share some of the awesome projects I've been working

Sorry about the absence // On my mind

     I know I've been a bit absent on the blog lately. My life has been a whirlwind these past few weeks.
     I am so busy with photoshoots - more busy than I have ever been but I don't mind one bit.

     This particular photoshoot (pictured above) was so much fun. I got to photograph 26 dancers and their
     cute dance instructor. It was such a blast! And I couldn't have done it without my two amazing helpers.
     Teria and Trenton. Teria did an awesome job shooting and Trenton blew me away with his helpfulness
     and even what he is learning about photography. I love this picture, Thanks Teria.

   On my mind:

   Halloween. I always look forward to Halloween but this year (like the last) I have been
     too distracted with Jude's birthday to come up with amazing costumes. I have two different
     costume ideas that I am trying to decide on.

   Jude fell down the stairs. Jude took a tumble down the stairs at the in-laws last night.
     It scared me half to death. I couldn't sleep last night even after calling the on-call doctor to make
     sure he would be okay // find out what signs to look for in case he had a concussion. He seems
     okay but he is still a little fussy. I'm realizing this will be the first of many terrifying falls. *sigh

    My skin. I swear I am back in high school! Why is my skin so mad at me lately?

Jude's Birthday Party: Decorations

Well here it is! Hopefully if you weren't at the party, you can feel like you were there now. :)
From top to bottom: Food Table, Lemonade Stand, Stripey Straws and Mason jars, Gift Table, Ice Cream in cups, Party Hats, Advice jar, Cupcakes with flags, Photo booth Backdrop and Jude's big Balloon, and the Gate where guests entered.
Our Backyard is tiny, but, I really wanted to have the party at our home because I'm funny like that. Also, I had so much party crap it just didn't make sense to go anywhere else. I think it worked out nicely.

>> We ate hot dogs, popcorn, chips, potato salad, cookies, cupcakes, and ice cream. We drank lemonade too of course.
>>The food table was a little rushed and I didn't get time to set up everything like I planned, but I don't think it mattered.
>>The lemonade stand was pretty much the focal point of the party. I asked my dad if he would build it for me a while back and over the course of months planning the party I actually forgot about it. I don't think the party would have worked with out it.
>> If you are into the blog world at all, you know a party isn't a party without stripey straws. I got the mason jar idea from her and found these cool Native American ones at D.I.
>> The gift table housed little {baby food} jars to be filled up with lemon heads for the guests to take and also the advice jar, and the gifts.

>> The party hats were just cheap ones from the dollar store that I unwrapped and traced onto fabric. I then cut many "hat-shaped" pieces of fabric and used spray adhesive to glue it down to the dollar store hat. Finally, I decorated the hats with pom poms and left over fabric. Jude's was the fanciest of course.
>>The Backdrop is just fabric with fabric cloud pillows sewn by my mom. I love how it turned out. Behind the lemonade stand is card board painted by me... it was the original backdrop but proved to be too small.
>> The flag on the gate was another spray adhesive project. (Don't look too close. ha!) I love that stuff.

Thank You's...

First of All I need to thank my mom for all her help. Whether it was ordering supplies, sewing, baking cookies, decorating, or helping me with ideas, She was there. Thank you so much mom! I really appreciate all your help.

Second is my dad. Dad thank you so much for putting all that work into the Lemonade stand. I didn't realize what a tall order that was until I saw the final result. Man I'm spoiled! But the greatest thing about the lemonade stand is that we now have something to keep in the family for years and years of playtime. You're awesome dad!

Trenton. Wow Trenton you fixed that backyard up pretty stinking nice! Thank you for rushing to get it done for Jude's party. Also thank you for putting up with your stress case of a wife and for cooking hot dogs at the party.

Cori and MacKenzie. Thank you for helping here and there. Mac thanks for picking up the cake and helping me with the giant balloons. Also thanks for frosting cookies. Cori! Your cupcake frosting skills were greatly appreciated and unfortunately for you - I may use you again in the future.

After planning Jude's party for 6 months, the actual party itself happened so fast. In fact we even forgot to sing the poor boy happy birthday of all things. Luckily, anything I may see as imperfect will certainly not be remembered by Jude. And as you can see, he seemed to enjoy himself quite a bit. I'd say the party was a hit!

These are just a few candids that I like - that I thought I post for a preview. I am so incredibly busy with photography right now so I will be squeezing in Jude's birthday editing when I can... and I will share more as I am able. I need to share more of the beautiful candids, the decor shots, photo booth shots, and the messy cake pictures... so stay tuned!

Happy Birthday little one!

Our Jude has been on the earth for one whole year.

I'd like to share a few words and I've convinced Trenton to do the same.

SHE
I can remember very plainly when I held Jude for the first time. I was in awe. This beautiful baby boy was now our responsibility to take care of, to nurture, to teach, and to love. Could I do it? Would I be a good enough mother for this sweet angel? I remember driving home from the hospital feeling so nervous. Every bump in the car made me cringe. He was so fragile. That evening we laid him down for bed in our home and I felt whole. I had a family. I was married to the perfect man for me and together we had created a miracle.
It hasn't always been easy being a mother. Sometimes I wonder if I am doing the right thing or if I'm losing my identity. But at the end of the day when I kiss him goodnight, I know it's all worth it. Jude is the best thing that has happened to me. I am so lucky to be able to sing to him, read to him, make him fun meals, dress him up in fancy clothes, cuddle him, knock over blocks with him, go on walks with him, and even sometimes cry with him. I love my little Jude so much and can't believe he is 1 year old.

HIM
I remember when Jude was born like it was only a year ago. We knew he was coming because we had an appointment but it still was not real to me I had know way of knowing what was in store or how life would change it just was this event that was going to happen. Few moments in life are so pivotal. I was able to not only watch my son come into the world but i saw my wife turn into a mother right before my eyes i can still see in my mind when they put that baby in her arms. That is something i will never forget. As Jude has grown and developed his personality i have only gotten more attached and i cant wait to see what he becomes.

We love you Jude! Happy Birthday!

Second Guest this Week is a Good friend of mine! Tiffani of Tifsong. You may remember her from here. Tiffani is also a photographer and has been a big inspiration to me as I decided to start out in the photography world. (My goodness, maybe I need to branch out. I seem to love photographers and awful lot! haha) Anyway, she is recently married and I love the sweet relationship that she and her husband have. So, here she is telling you all about it!

Randi asked me a few days ago to be a "guest" on her blog while she's busy with her handsome son's 1st birthday. This is my first time as a guest. I'm grateful for the chance! Woo.

Topic of choice: Marriage: Celebrating each others differences.

I have been married for a whole 5 months. Quite the large amount of time. I'm practically a genius regarding the matter. I know absolutely everything there is to know on the subject of marriage. So celebrating my husbands differences is exactly what I do everyday. I put on a party hat when he comes home from work or school and blow air through a noise maker. Party.

Psyche.

That was a funny joke though, wasn't it? I thought so, too.

(While typing that I burned taco meat. Who does that?)

It's funny how excited I was to be married. Hear me out. I think any and every bride to be gets that giddy twitter-pated "EVERYTHING WILL ALWAYS BE PERFECT" mindset. I definitely fell trap to that. I knew my husband for a very long time, we dated a short 1 year, but before that we were friends for years. I was convinced that there wasn't anything new I'd discover upon our marriage. Obviously, I was aware that I'd get to know him better, but there weren't any secret quirks that I wasn't going to discover. Besides, basically everything he cared deeply about, I cared deeply about. Our beliefs as far as religion and how we want to raise our children are the same. Things that are important to him are equally important to me. We both entertain ourselves mostly with music and movies, we're both open to each others tastes that way, him more than me..

But those are things that are the same.

In 5 months of marriage I have discovered, we're not only forever loves, soul mates, one and only's, what have you, we're best friends. I knew it before but...

Growing up I had lots of "best friends," I still do. What makes us best friends isn't really the things we have in common, it's the other things, the things that make us different. It's the way we feel when we hear a certain song, the way we think when we read a piece of literature, it's the way we express ourselves, sincerity or insincerity. It's the positive or negative feedback we give each other. It's the mockery and laughter we share, sometimes at each others expense. It's the level of comfort we offer up another. It is our humanity.

Now grasping all of that, I look to my husband of 5 months. We are so much more different than I ever expected we would be. And to expect anything at all on the topic should've been my downfall. What makes us work is the way we are, and clearly we are not the same. The glory of it all is that because we are different, we're able to learn, grow, and become, with each other. We're able to put on our party hat for no reason other than celebrating that. We're able to be. Just.. be, and be in LOVE, of course.

(and, if you want to know my opinion, being is truly the best verb out there.)

I love how she always finds time to have fun with her sweetheart while being a mother to her two young boys. I thought she would be the perfect person for this particular subject. Take it away Connie!

Hi everyone! I’m Connie and I blog over at About Him & Her. I’m honored that Randi asked me to guest post for her! I have the opportunity to write about how to keep your marriage alive after having children. In my mind there is nothing more important. I could write a book about this, there’s just so much that comes to mind… but I’ll spare you (:

I made a list of six things that I think are important to keep the flame burning in a marriage after kids come into the mix:

1. 1. Laugh. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Kids are loud, may cause stress, and throw tantrums. If Tony and I allowed every one of those things to get to us, we would be total wrecks. Instead, we try to laugh at unfortunate moments (like both boys screaming/crying in the back seat on a long drive), to not cry over spilt milk or spaghetti on the walls. Life is much sweeter when you laugh and find humor in a not-so-great situation.

2. 2. Do things together. Make his hobbies, your hobbies- and vise versa. My husband loves it when I watch sports with him. My husband and I are fortunate to both play an instrument. We’ve “jammed” together many-a-time and we have plans for more music in our future. There’s lots you can do- paint your home together (paint fight, anyone?), wash your car, all those straight-from-a-cute-movie moments really bring couples closer.

3. 3. Go on dates. My husband and I go out on dates as much as humanly possible. Even if it means redboxing a movie and eating pie and ice cream in our own living room, we are spending time together. Even better than watching a movie though- play cards, board games, or just have pillow talk for hours. That’s what we do. Those kinds of activities bring me way closer to my husband than TV and movies do.

4. 4. Cuddle. Cuddle… among other things. Seriously, that is a MUST. Tony holds my hand while he’s driving, walking around in the mall (even if we are both pushing strollers or shopping carts), and we cuddle on the couch when we watch TV. My kids see this, and I know they are happy. One day Tony happened to not hug me goodbye, he only kissed me. My hands were busy preparing breakfast, and he was running late. Brody noticed! He said, “Daddy didn’t hug you!” Kids need to see that their parents are so in love. Remember when you dated and you’d scratch his arm? Don’t stop! Never stop “dating” your spouse and holding them close.

5. 5. Kind words. It’s so important to shower- literally, SHOWER your spouse with kind words. Guys need to know what you admire about them, and love, just as much as girls do. As a woman, I love hearing how beautiful I am by him. If I say those things to him, he says those things to me; and kind words are always in abundance. Who can be unhappy then?

6. 6. Service. You may have heard the phrase, “you love those whom you serve”. It’s very true- outside of your home and within it. Tony and I do things for each other. We share, help, and most of all, volunteer it. I used to hoard my cake, hoping he didn’t ask for a bite. Those days are long gone though, as marriage has taught me about what’s mine is yours. Offering a bite, foot rub, back scratch, or surprising him by mowing the lawn, are all things that warm THEIR heart. In turn they grow to love and appreciate you more by the small things you do.

Marriage is not easy- for anyone. Sometimes it is, other times you have all these “adult responsibilities” that seem to weigh you down and make things less fun or easy. When kids come along you find there is less time staring at each other (that sounds weird, you know what I mean;) and more time staring at your kid making sure they aren’t down the street, eating bugs off the neighbors driveway. I’m sure it happens. My point… as long as you MAKE time for each other, tell & show them you love them, and don’t sweat the small stuff, it will be really hard to lose that flame. And honestly, our kids have brought us closer. They make us laugh, cry (in a good way), and at the end of every day we just love talking about all the cool stuff the kids did today. We want our kids to be happy by having happy parents.

Keep up the friendship, & it will keep your marriage going strong. It will last a lifetime… how could it not?

Guidelight Ladybug

NOTE: I've been asked to review this product but these opinions are all my own.

I am the kind of person that will buy something really cute even if it lacks a little in practicality ...but when a product is both practical AND cute that is a huge plus! The GuideLight Bug {night light} is seriously neat!
The coolest thing about the GuideLightLadyBug is that the lady bug is detachable. If the power were to go out, the lady bug will still work! Now THAT'S practical! As the website says:
"The Guidelight Ladybug Night Light charges on an induction base, leaving it for free wireless use around the house."
I also love how Guidelight Ladybug is motion activated - unlike the nightlight my husband installed in the little guy's room. (sorry sweetie) "The motion sensor picks up on movement to instantly activate with a soft, non vivid light. The perfect nightlight for children, this adorable light glows with a comforting light that will shine all night."

I plugged the light in the kitchen to test it out, and found myself walking by waving my hands in front of it all evening. Then I decided to test it out on Jude. I put it in his room over night and really loved the soft glow it radiated and he was as mesmerized as I was.

This product was dropped twice since I received it. (What can I say I have an 11 month old?) And so far it seems to hold up nicely. So, it's cute, useful, and durable! What more can I say! I definitely recommend this product!

New Lens!

I just got a photoshoot that I am stoked about. This will be the biggest thing I have ever done!

And thanks to that, I can finally afford (and need) to buy a new lens. I asked around for a good lens

to shoot groups with and this was the unanimous suggestion. A 24-70mm. It turns out a

fellow photographer was selling his and I was able to get a good deal for a fairly new lens.

(He and hiswife have used this lens to shoot many destination weddings and I think it would

be safe to say they were a little sad to see it go.)

Anyway, this lens weighs more than my camera and it makes me itch for the 5D even more now!

I have gotten so used to my 50mm, I can't believe I can zoom! This is very exciting! And the best

part? I am paying for this all on my own - no help from the husband! Yes!

the 2011 marathon - volunteering

-I love photos like the second one. Weird faces captured forever. haha Nice one Ju-bee!

-I never realized how big a part this volunteering has been in our lives until I involved Jude in it. We have been doing this since my little sister was Jude's age!

-Jude really enjoyed hanging out in his stroller - holding signs and yelling "BAH!" at the runners. His favorite part however, was giving the runners high fives. I love that.

-I drew on Jude's onsie to make it look like a volunteer shirt. I crack myself up.

-Kinda weird to have Trenton cheering and not running this year.

-It wouldn't be the marathon without the Simonson family coming to help out!

-The weather was nice and warm this year. Good for us and yucky for the runners.

-One of my favorite shots is the one of Jude on the plaid blanket - taken by the husband! I wonder if he know I am slowly/secretly teaching him how to be my second shooter. I think he's getting pretty good. haha

-The last shot is definitely a little weird for me to post but I love the reflection (in my sunglasses) of Trenton sprawled out on the grass. ha!

This weekend our City hosts a big event - for around here. The Saint George Marathon. It's a weird year for our family. For over 15 years we have volunteered at the 25.2 Mile marker (the last mile.) and this year they are switching things up by hiring a company to handle the clocks and organization. We are hoping our little post will be just as fun - without the big clock making us look official.

Another weird part for me is that no one from my husband's family is running the marathon this year. Including my husband. The poor thing is still dealing with his ankle problem from over 2 years ago (Darn work accident) and it seems to be a long, near impossible process to get him back to normal again. (He ran last year thinking it was only a sprain, oh dear!) We sure hope he can get back to 100% someday.

Anyway, we just cant be stopped no matter what the situation may be. We just love getting together as a family and cheering those crazy runners on!So we will gather together tonight and make a million flashy signs and gather up some goodies and my dad will likely make a great playlist, and we will all get up at 6am tomorrow to freeze our bums off just so we don't miss that first runner. Oh poor us. haha

(It's weird to think that this time last year I was worried sick that I would go into labor while Trenton was running the marathon. Lucky me, I still had over a week to go. Ha!)

business love. It's no secret that my dream is to be a stay at home momma - and be able to work for myself. I guess I always assumed starting my own business would never happen. That kind of thing is what smarter, more important people do. Sad thinking I know. Well ever since I decided it was all or nothing - and decided to give it my all - things have been crazy good. I know it wont always be easy or this opportune, but I feel as if the Lord is showing me that I really can do it - by giving me these opportunities!
Experienced photographers are welcoming me into their world with open arms. They have offered me, advice, and opportunities that I could not be more thankful for. My friends and clients are spreading the word and recommending me to their peers. I am SO thankful!

family love. The past two days, I was really sick. (TMI warning: Throwing up 4 times in one day? Ugh!) I had to cancel on my sister-in-law - as I had planned to photograph her sweet little family. Not only was she completely okay with it but she offered to come get Jude for the afternoon. Who does that when they already have two little ones of their own!? Later in the evening - after Trenton had picked up Jude - my little sister called up. She asked if I needed anything and told me she was coming to visit. She brought me my dad's homemade chicken noodle soup! I was feeling the love yesterday!

neighbor love. I have the cutest neighbor that calls me up whenever she finds a diaper deal, or if she ever happens upon a free can of formula. In fact, thanks to all her coupons and formula checks - we have even made money! But that's not the end of it. She is always giving me hand-me-down clothing and is one of those that has supported me since the very beginning of my photography. My next door neighbor is an older widow and she recently brought me loads of homegrown tomatoes from her brothers garden. She is always coming over to see our latest home improvement project aka feeding Trenton's ego. I love my little neighborhood.

These are just a few examples of the love I receive daily. Sometimes the littlest things just make a girl feel so good! Thank you to all of you that have shared your "love" with me recently. It is much appreciated!

Husband's Birthday Celebrations

This happened before the Vegas Trip but I'm posting it anyway. Sunday was the combined birthday party for Trenton and Trevor, then on Thursday (their actual birthday) Trevor had to work so I just invited people over to celebrate for Trenton. We had Trenton's casserole and brownies and he opened a few gifts. Jude and I also met Trenton for lunch on Thursday. Hence the picture of Trenton and Jude along with the self timer close up of the two of us. Hot!

Vegas baby!

I didn't take very many photos on our trip because I did not want to lug around the nice camera. Instead I took a million short videos of the trip and I'm working on putting it together - into a little movie.

To summarize our weekend, we attended the best concert of our lives! Artic Monkeys were even better live than on their records! And TV on the Radio was so cute - I just wanted to give them all a hug. The concert was at the Cosmopolitan - which is a new casino - and SO fancy. We dipped our feet in the pool in between bands and listened under the night sky of Las Vegas. What a great scene!

Trenton told me I basically forced him into this trip but he was so glad I did. It was great to see him have so much fun.

We did a little shopping (a little for me and too much for Trenton.) And ate some yummy food. We stayed near Fremont Street in the old part of Las Vegas at the Plaza Hotel and loved it. It was so swanky!

All in all we had a blast spending some time just the two of us - and we were glad to get back to see our little one.

Thank you to my sister-in-law Kristi for tending Jude. We are so glad he was good for you and thank you for not giving him candy! haha!

Trenton is 29 today. Woo Hoo!

Let me tell you a few random facts about the man I am married to.

Trenton is extremely patient. I have only seen him lose his cool once and it had to do with politics - of course. Yet, Trenton losing his cool is far from something you would see from most people. He has an incredible even temper.

Trenton can do anything! I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not. Anything that needs fixing, building, or figuring out he can do it. I think this has to do with his stubborn personality. He will not give up on anything unless he has succeeded in it.

Trenton has a ridiculous memory. He can sing along to any song even after hearing only once or twice. He is also famous for quoting movies or television shows perfectly.

Trenton has faith. I have not met anyone with stronger faith. No lie.

Trenton is a great dad. Not only do I know he will ALWAYS find a way to provide for my little one, but I know he loves him with his whole heart. He is such a "hands-on" dad - changing diapers, feeding Jude, making him laugh for those pictures I am always taking, and taking time to play with him..

Those are just a few things I love about my husband.
Here's wishing Trenton a happy birthday - although I don't really need to wish for it as I know it will be good by all my efforts. My funny husband asked me to make a casserole {of all things} for dinner - I think I can handle that. And brownies instead of a birthday cake? Wow he's just too easy to please.

But as I've already mentioned, the real fun is tomorrow's Artic Monkeys Concert in Las Vegas! I am hoping he will enjoy a little time as couple. Really, I'm hoping he will enjoy it as much as I will.

Anyway, I would feel a little bad if I didn't wish Trevor (the twin) a happy birthday also. So Happy Birthday Trenton and Trevor!

TV is good!

I am in full on party planner mode. Now all I need is the food. I think?

Last night we watched Glee, The New Girl, Raising Hope, and Parenthood.

All while blanching corn on the cob (to freeze for later) and making party hats.

We are TV people. I really love TV time with the husband - after the little one is in

bed. In the summer it's often me editing photos or browsing the Internet while

the husband plays video games or more likely works on a home improvement

project. But, when fall comes around (and TV is back on) it forces us to sit down

together and cuddle. (Which we both love but don't always remember to do.)

My weekend was just as busy as I expected and more!

On top of all my to-do's, both my boys came down with colds.

Saturday,we went to Enterprise again but this time for a

photoshoot where I took 3 cute high school seniors to do their

Senior Portraits. They will be my senior representatives - and

helping me advertise. They were spoiled by Trenton's Grandpa

and they were introduced to the swing leap. (See more photos here.)

Among other things I tried a new no-heat curls method (love it.)

I started on the party hats for Jude's birthday party and finished

gathering up all my non-perishable party supplies.. Yes! I ate a

little dark chocolate, organized a bit and pampered my boys with

soup and cuddles. Sunday was more pampering and also a small

birthday celebration for Trenton (husband) and his twin brother.

Their birthday is this Thursday.

Anyway, There's my weekend in the form of many run-on sentences

and random thoughts. How was yours?

This week I have some fun on my agenda.

As I mentioned, Thursday is the husband's birthday so we will be

celebrating Wednesday, Thursday and finally heading to LasVegas

on Friday.We are going to see the Artic Monkeys in concert! I'm

also excited to stay over in a hotel - and do a little birthday shopping

for Trenton and Jude on Saturday! All while Jude stays behind.

(Thanks Aunt Kristi!) I feel like it's my birthday too!

Sometimes knowing how fun the second half of the week will be,

makes a Monday a lot less unbearable! I hope your Monday

11 Months Old

Last night we went to print Jude's Birthday invitations, I am major stressing over all the details for this big bash. I probably have at least five checklists laying around the house. But, surprisingly I don't think it's the party that is making me most crazy. It's likely the fact that my baby is turning into a toddler.

Today Jude is 11 months old which means I have one month til' he turns 1 year old! Oh my goodness! I had NO idea what "they grow so fast" meant until now. Why does time fly in these precious moments?

Despite my fear of Jude growing up, it really is quite fun to have a little one crawling around saying "Mum, mum." Playing patty cake and giving me cuddles. Each new stage is even more fun than the last - believe it or not. He has a little personality of his own and it is so fun to get to know him.

I still can't figure what on earth I did to be given such a little angel to watch over and raise as my child. Maybe I was awesome in Heaven. Anyway, I am off to gather party hats and cupcake toppers. Essentials no doubt. :)

Photo Captions: 1 We were given bandannas for some reason so I tied one around Jude's neck. 2 We introduced Jude to cotton Candy and he wasn't too hip on it. 3 Jude was however VERY hip on the bag of Doritos. This was only the start of his nutritious dinner. 3 so cute! Little wrist and wrist band. 4 & 5 Us being way more enthused about the bumper boats than Jude. And he should have appreciated it more after the convincing we had to do to get the worker to let us take him. ha. 6 &7 Jude getting his first tattoo. He's so hardcore. 8, 9 & 10 We also had to convince the face painter. She was worried Jude would move too much but, he was very interested in her clown face paint so he stayed very still. He wasn't quite sure when he looked in the mirror. ha ha Trenton and I were very sure... that that was the cutest thing we'd ever seen. 11 & 12 Jude on the mini golf buildings. I don't know. We're just silly. 13 A little family shot 14 Jude eating another bag of chips after throwing a hunger fit. 14 Trenton being a complete child - basking in his ticket winnings. We got Jude some bubbles and us some candy out of it. Those prizes are expensive!

We had the opportunity to attend the Harmon's Grocery Store Party last night. Trenton's twin brother is the grocery manager and he invited us to come along. I went expecting some arcade games and a hot dog... and maybe a cute picture of Jude. But I guess I had the Fiesta Fun from my teenage years in mind. I had no idea this place would be so fun with a kid! We took full advantage of all the silly things going on... using our baby as a guinea pig and it was hilarious. I had a total and complete blast and I think Trenton did too. Jude? I think he was indifferent. ha ha

Changes!

Good Monday Morning! I am making some changes around here. The most obvious being my new brunette locks. I don't feel like I'm having any less fun in case you wondered. In fact I think I may be done with the blonde for a while!
In other ways I am working hard on getting my photography business more and more legitimate. It's so close! I have been feeling so much comfort in my prayers lately as to which road to take in my life. My dream of working for myself is looking like an actual possibility now. It may be hard work and a little further away than I'd like, but it's looking possible and that's all I want to see right now!
I'd like to share a few other things but I would like for them to develop a little more. (No that doesn't mean baby I promise!) So watch for that to come.

I am a nostalgia addict. I love to reminisce and look at old pictures.

So When my dad found a journal of mine from the 2nd grade, I

could not have been more excited. I even took this little journal and

read it to my in-laws.

It turns out I get a way bigger kick out of it than anyone else, but

I thought I'd share it here anyway.

It's safe to say I was quite brilliant - especially in the spelling and
grammar department. (There are many more to share, dont you worry.)

Labor day

Goodness! I really try to keep the Jude photos to a minimum - but the problem is I can't help but photograph him which leaves me with lots of photos that I feel are worthy of sharing.

Yesterday was perfect because it seemed to last forever. Trenton and I were able to sleep in a bit (thank you Jude!) get a few projects done around the house, and then head up to Enterprise.

In Enterprise, Trenton helped his parents with the Rental again (the reason for so many Enterprise trips lately.) And later we headed to the Cabin for a dinner and some time with the Grandparents and the rest of the Gardner/Baumann crew.
Grandpa Morley was in full swing (no pun intended) -making us swing leap, and go for four wheeler rides. Both of which terrified Jude half to death. Where was my camera for Jude's first ever swing leap!? Oh well I will never forget that horrified little face.
Anyway, fun was had by all. The family got along really well which I was so glad about.. Oh and it wouldn't be normal if I didn't mention how yummy the food was - and it was! (Even despite the lack of green stuff in Kristi's pasta salad. haha)

Clark's Passing

My grandmother asked me to photograph the burial of her late husband. It was a special experience for me - full of patriotism and reverence. The service was great too - it was full of old stories about Clark. It was nice to be reminded of his fun side since he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's years ago and just wasn't himself since then....

Anyway, the one thing I love about funerals is you get to see loved ones that you normally don't see - and get a little closer.
The second to last photo is my mother with her brothers. They have not all 3 been together for quite some time.
The last photo is my sister, me and my two cousins. I haven't seen them since they were little ones and I quite like how much they look like me now. :)
This weekend was very enjoyable - lots of family time, and food. Those are two of my very favorite things.
If you feel up to it please say a little prayer for my Grandmother and also Clark's children. We know Clark is resting well, but losing a love one is never easy.

Coming together

Last night I pulled out everything I have collected for Jude's first birthday party. Then I set it all up for my mom and the husband to see. I felt a little more justified in my craziness when I saw their reactions. Not that the husband would ever admit that all the shopping is worth it - it's probably not. Ha.

I just can't help the joy I get out of making things look atheistically pleasing. And my dreams of an AMY ATLAS inspired party are finally coming together! To see my original idea board go here. I've actually moved away from the gingham (too girly maybe?)

Pictured above are two small snippets of my most recent developments including the backdrop I painted. (Yes that is a card board backdrop. Give me a break!) It will be the backdrop for the food table and also the photo booth backdrop. The backdrop for the last photos of my Jude Year One Series. *Sigh I am sad to think my baby is a little over a month away from turning 1 year old. Why am I dreading it as much as I am looking forward to it?

Sunshine, Corn & Jude of Course

Summer is about over and I find myself wishing I had enjoyed the sunshine a little more. Of course here in southern Utah Summer does last longer than most places - at least the weather does.
Jude adores the outdoors and all things nature. He reaches for the trees, loves the wind in his face and of course likes to play in the dirt and grass. I love that about him.

Now I find myself thinking about the weekend on a Tuesday. I think I'll plan a little something that involves that sunshine.

One thing about fall that I welcome is the corn! Oh I love corn on the cob. Trenton is from a small town called Enterprise. Every year Enterprise hosts a corn fest... where I guess they celebrate corn! ha. We were not able to go this year but my sister-in-law kindly picked up 2 DOZEN ears of corn for us. I am going to freeze most of it so I can enjoy it later.We have already enjoyed it for dinner once!

Any ideas for a "suunshiny" weekend activity? What about some good corn recipes?
I miss my readers! Sorry for being so boring lately!

I believe

There is something so refreshing about someone simply stating what they believe. Standing up and saying "I know in my heart that {this} is true!" It is inspiring to listen to a person state their beliefs with such confidence and bravery - for all to hear whether they agree or not. I love the idea.

My Home: Kitchen

I've wanted to do a little "Home" Series for a while now. So since we just spiffed up the kitchen a bit, I decided to share the Kitchen first. These are some details in my Kitchen... Including the new grey paint (that is a little warmer in real life) and the new french doors.

Weekend

The weekend consisted of yummy food, a photoshoot, LOTS of trips to the

Home Depot and LOTS of home improvement. We replaced our

sliding glass door with french doors (pictures to come) We re-painted

the kitchen, painted over the stripes in the living room, and replaced the old

fan with a fancy new one. There is still a little finishing to do, but it looks great!

Now I'm not feeling so sentimental about selling the old mustang. Hopefully

the husband feels the same since he is the one who has driven it for years.

P.S. The cookies were for the neighbor lady who had to put up with lights

and noise at 10pm. Turns out she didn't hear a thing but we got to know her

better and that was really great.

What i've been up to.

I finally found some maps at the thrift store to hang in my empty frames! Yes! (the frames were another score from Gramma's house.) I was also excited to find a globe too, I've been wanting a globe for Jude's room so I can teach him that the world is not flat like a pancake - it's round! ha ha I have been spending way too much time on Pinterest lately... this is where i got the maps on the wall idea. In fact Pinterest and home decorating has become the center of all my attention - next to the little guy. Which brings me to the last photo of my little guy playing. I adore watching him play with his blocks and cups (thanks for the cups Aunt Kristi!) He is getting so smart. Today he stacked blocks for the first time and it brought me to tears! (little ones) I was so proud of him and yet sad that he is getting so big and grown up!

Although it's not pictured, I have been lucky to have lunch with friends a lot lately. I've decided to get out and do things a little more because otherwise I tend to go a little crazy. (See post below.) Anyway, I'm very aware that the blog is slowly getting less interesting, but I guess I'm okay with that. I am doing what I need to be doing right now. Hope everyone is doing well. :)

sometimes i need to freak out to feel better

Thank you to my sweet husband for doing dishes, staying up at night with J, and listening to me whine last week. The weekend refreshed me {thanks to him} and now I am thankful again. Man! I'm silly!

10 months old!

Today we went for a drive to find some photo spots for an upcoming photo shoot of mine. (Two words Turquoise. wall. Yes!) We decided we would snap some pictures of Jude while we were out too. weekend snips

A weekend full of my boys. We nurtured Jude as he is getting a little better and we went to Enterprise, we played hide and seek, blocks, and cuddled. Banana pancakes and a sunday drive - missing church to keep Jude from getting other little ones sick. Pictures and projects. Basically we did what we love and I am feeling so relaxed. awwww.
